Swift-Boating Haditha Marines

First, the Haditha ‘massacre’ does expose something sinister. It exposes a corrupt double standard employed by the media elite and those on the left who care not a wit about the truth.

Secondly, John Murtha should be tried for treason.

After starting this post I came across this post by Michael Yon which is absolutely spot on. In fact what he’s written is so good that I’m not sure I can add anything better– but then that’s never stopped me before.
Double Standards

With all the news attention given to the ‘fact’ that US Marines massacred innocent civilians, with John Murtha leading the way condemning them, you’d think that the monsters in our military were in fact all, “terrorizing kids and children, you know, women,” just as John Kerry accused.

What is truly horrifying about this incident is that it exposes our news media (and certain political classes) as more interested in being the propaganda wing of al Qaeda than reporting the news objectively.

Is Haditha news because of the killing of civilians? How could it be? The number of civilians massacred by the mujahadeen pales in comparison, both in numbers and brutality to what is alleged in Haditha. So where are the frontpage stories about the killing of civilians by the mujahadeen in Haditha? For that matter where are any other basic details about Haditha?

Compare these two stories from Reuters. The first characterizes the actions of Marines engaged in battle immediately after being attacked as a ‘massacre’ and demands that the entire chain of command up to Bush should be implicated.

Probe of Haditha massacre must go to top: US lawmakers
WASHINGTON (AFP) - A US probe of an alleged massacre of civilians in Haditha, Iraq must go beyond accused Marines and up the military command to rule out any possibility of a cover-up, US lawmakers said. ~news.yahoo

Now compare a similiar story about the Mujahadeen killing 24 people. No massacre. No outrage. No calls for investigations. Just “executions.” Further we see who should be blamed for this as well, i.e. no one in particular. It’s just, “violence continues in Iraq.”

Students “executed” as Iraq violence rages on
BAGHDAD, Iraq (Reuters) - Gunmen in Iraq Iraq dragged 24 people, mostly teenage students, from vehicles and shot them dead, police said, as violence raged in the country on Sunday.

The executions are carried out at dawn on Haqlania bridge, the entrance to Haditha. A small crowd usually turns up to watch even though the killings are filmed and made available on DVD in the market the same afternoon. ~news.yahoo

What possible connection could these two stories have? Well, it turns out they have a very close connection.

Swift Boating the Marines in Haditha

To paraphrase the great Secretary Rumsfeld, “You go to war with the 5th column you have. Not the one you wish you had.”

The incredible thing about this story is it’s onesidedness. Did Marines go to far? Hell, I don’t know. But the charges made by those like John Murtha are worse than reckless they are downright treasonous. What John Murtha accuses carries the death penalty for these Marines. To say that these Marines killed in cold blood unprovoked is not merely a lie, they are the words of someone who reflexively takes the side of our enemies.

Background context

If I told you I put a bullet in someone’s head would that make me a murderer? What I told you they had just shot my friend and were pointing a gun at me as well. Context.

Context is not just something used to muddy the waters, it is the chain of events which led up to and surround actions.
